It just does. They do maths in a way that is totally nonsensical and then have the gall to tell you to learn maths. How Fucking Dare They? HOW FUCKING DARE THEY? Christ-all-mighty. The moment I'm rich, I'm moving to a tax haven. Barbados, here I come. Fuck this sad little country and its tax office. Income Tax is Immoral. HECS is a joke.

The sad thing is it doesn't have to be as bad as it is.
A lot of tax collected is absorbed by the collectors. The cost of compliance is larger than necessary because of bad law. The bad law was put in there so that some party head could accuse the other side of incompetance. Then, when the bad law doesn't work well, the same wedger accuses the opposition of incompetance again.
I was pro GST. I got really mad when the Democrats fucked with it. The GST as implemented is expensive and difficult and fiddley. The proposed GST was simple and manageable.
Thing is, people support the jerks even while they are being screwed. A friend of mine is giving me a lift to a railway station. Stops at work to show me some great astronomy stuff that might interest my kids. Radio announcer moots the possible closing of his workplace. Brogden opposes the cuts. My friend says that he would never support Brogden anyway.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it think.
I think it ought to be tops of 10% income tax, 10% GSt, that's it. The rest is just busllshit. What the hell does the governemtn really sepdn it on but perks and limos and crap?

Still not happy about teh 11.83 they chose to charge me because they re-assessed my HECS downwards. The thing I don't get is, That's money I've already had taken out at the pay-packet. Why are they charging me again? When I rang up, nobody could explain it; they just said that it was the way itwas done and I was stupid if I couldn't understand it. Can you believe that? I was 'stupid' if I couldn't understand why I had to pay something twice when they re-assessed my HECS debt lower!!!!!
